So sorry that the U.S. is not sending its very best to our greatest neighbor, but that appears to be a hallmark of the current regime. As a U.S. citizen, married to a Canadian (for 50 years now) who comes from your neck of the woods (Campbellville), I am profoundly saddened by the current state of affairs between our two nations. Apologies for the rude and ignorant comments of Amb. Hoekstra. They are totally uncalled for. Elbows up. Do whatever it takes to to preserve Canadian sovereignty.
BTW, my father-in-law served in the Canadian forces in the Netherlands. We in our family are well aware of Canada’s wartime contributions. Our children were raised to take pride in their Canadian heritage.
Now living in Western Washington—not far from the border with B.C.—we regularly take part in Peace, Love and a Handshake rallies at the Peace Arch. They give us a chance to express solidarity with our gracious neighbors to the north. Our governments may be at odds currently, thanks to Trump, but the people stand together. As the Arch reminds us, we are “Children of a Common Mother.”
