Will Poilievre’s Makeover Sway Canadian Voters? Canadian Politics August 20, 2023
Poilievre’s embarrassingly low approval ratings among voters are not because of his geeky appearance.
So, by now, many of us have seen the TV commercials that attempt to portray Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre as a kind and compassionate, everyday Canadian.
Phase One of this makeover was getting Poilievre to lose the glasses and tie and start showing up at media events in T-shirts and jeans, which is the outfit he wears in the ‘All-Canadian Boy’ commercials that are now running.

It reminds me of the monumental transformation that Sandra Bullock went through in those ‘Miss Congeniality’ movies… but, I digress.
It’s all being done to show Canadians that Poilievre is not the slightly geeky-looking MP who just happens to espouse the radical views of the extreme right and, unlike most Canadians, who’s major source of income for most of his adult life has been a taxpayer-funded government salary.
The Conservatives are hoping this version of Poilievre will convince voters that he is and always has been an everyday Canadian, just like you and me.
But, that illusion is shattered the moment Poilievre speaks.
Then, we see it’s just the same old Poilievre, spreading conspiracy theories about the World Economic Forum, the Bank of Canada, vaccine mandates, and of course his favourite passion, discrediting any journalists who dare question his policies or motivations.
The Conservatives just don’t seem to get the message; Poilievre’s embarrassingly low approval ratings among voters are not because of his geeky appearance. It’s what comes out of his mouth that makes Canadian voters wonder if they really want a guy who believes those extremist views running our government!
