"We can’t continue to allow the conspiracy luddites to set the agenda" - July 21st Canadian news & commentary
We need a wake up call: We no longer seem to respect science, we ridicule education and reject intelligence.

We overlooked an important historical event last week.
It was the 54th anniversary of the first time that humans landed on the moon.
Those of who were around back then remember that Sunday evening, as Neil Armstrong uttered his now famous pronouncement: “One small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind!”
It didn’t quite come out that way, but I think we all got the intent of the message.
But from that amazing scientific achievement, was born the ugly and hurtful insurgence of the conspiracy theories. The moon landing was a hoax, they said; it was staged in a Disney sound stage in Los Angeles.
But those outlandish and baseless stories were, for the most part, ignored by the public, because back then, we respected science, and applauded intelligence and because of that, we achieved great things.
Since the advent of the internet and the plethora of platforms for conspiracy theorists, we’ve given a platform to the uninformed and those who deal in treachery.
We no longer seem to respect science, we ridicule education and reject intelligence.
We need a wake up call.
We can’t continue to allow the conspiracy luddites to set the agenda. The world is on fire, millions have died from a deadly pandemic and people in our cities are living in tents.
It’s time for us to reject the rants of the conspiracy theorists and once again embrace knowledge and intelligence.
