"RCMP investigating 100+ allegations of foreign interference, possibility of sensitive info being transferred to..." June 16, 2023 Canadian News Update + Commentary
Do we have to remind CSIS and the RCMP and other law enforcement agencies that they’re all on the same team?
It seems that the more we learn about how our intelligence and law enforcement agencies operate to serve and protect Canadians, the more concerned we become with the apparent lack of coordination between the RCMP and CSIS to ensure that we are protected from the ever growing threat and impact of foreign interference.
The most recent example of this disconnect was the revelation from the RCMP that, not only were they actively investigating the threats against MP Michael Chong and his family, they were also investigating over a hundred other allegations of foreign interference and the possibility of sensitive information being transferred to an unfriendly power.
So, why didn’t the RCMP inform CSIS of these investigations, or the Parliamentary Committee investigating those charges?
Or, how about informing the Ministers who are responsible for Public Safety?
Do we have to remind CSIS and the RCMP and other law enforcement agencies that they’re all on the same team?
And sadly, it’s not the first time that we’ve seen this refusal to share information.
The lack of coordination between these agencies and the OPP and local police was a contributing factor in the poor response to the trucker insurrections in Windsor and Ottawa last year.
That kind of incompetence puts lives at risk.
These agencies swear an oath to serve and protect Canadians; when they act in this kind of selfish and irresponsible fashion, they betray that solemn promise.
