"Liberals have only themselves to blame for their fall from grace." May 14, 2023 Canadian News Commentary by Bill Kelly
The Conservatives have a 7-point lead over the Liberals
A little over a week ago, Federal Liberals congregated in Ottawa to listen to their leader, Justin Trudeau, deliver a stirring rally-the-troops kind of speech to the delegates that seemed to have the desired effect; namely, to fall in line behind their leader and let him lead the charge against the hated Conservatives and their leader in the next election.

But, as pumped up those delegates were as they headed home, came the chilling reality of where their Liberal Party stood in the view of everyday Canadians. And it surely threw cold water on their lofty expectations.
The Conservatives have a 7-point lead over the Liberals and, even more distressing for them, is that Pierre Poilievre has a 5-point lead on the question of who Canadians think would be the best Prime Minister.
To be clear, it’s apparent that Canadians still don’t like Poilievre, but they still prefer him over the incumbent as our Prime Minister.
This sounds eerily similar to what happened in 2005, when Canadians had clearly indicated that they just didn’t like Stephen Harper, but they finally decided they would hold their collective noses and vote Conservative rather than give a tired and unpopular Liberal Party another mandate.
If that happens, Liberals have only themselves to blame for their fall from grace.
