"Ford promised he wouldn't touch the Greenbelt. He broke that promise and rewarded his financial backers" - August 10th Canadian news & commentary
The Auditor General's findings won't reverse decision to pave over valuable farmland and sensitive ecosystems

As a result of some outstanding investigative reporting by the Narwhal, the Toronto Star and Global News, we’ve seen some compelling evidence that someone in the Ford government seems to have tipped off some wealthy, Conservative-friendly developers who had made substantial contributions to Ford’s election campaigns.
That sounds unethical, if not criminal, but I think we need to manage our expectations about what the AG announced.
It won’t reverse the decision to pave over valuable farmland and sensitive ecosystems with no regard for the impact it will have on food supply and our environment, and that’s bad enough.
Let’s not forget that Doug Ford promised numerous times that he would not touch the Greenbelt, but when he was re-elected with the help of those large campaign contributions from those developers, he broke that promise and rewarded his financial backers.
There used to be a time when we demanded honesty and integrity from our politicians.
Sadly, too many of us are remaining silent as those two admirable character traits are dying a slow death in Ontario politics.
