"‘Advice’ to the Prime Minister from former Governor General David Johnston to be delivered today." May 23, 2023 Canadian News Update, Commentary Bill Kelly
It's time for Canadians to get the truth without the poorly crafted political spin.
We’re told the long awaited ‘advice’ to the Prime Minister from former Governor General David Johnston will be delivered today.
And, for the record, this should not have been a ‘long awaited decision’. As soon as Johnston accepted the post, probably could have and should have given his advice to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, namely… You’re damn right we need a full and detailed INDEPENDENT investigation of foreign interference.
But, it shouldn’t stop there. We need to know why the intelligence that was gathered on foreign interference was either dismissed out of hand or shoved in a locked drawer in somebody’s desk in the Prime Minister’s Office.
It’s the Daily Double of Investigative reporting—Who knew what, and when did they know it?
And getting answers to those most important questions will be the biggest challenge...
If there is an Inquiry, what will the parameters of the investigation be?
Will the Inquiry have access to any and all documentation and witnesses that they request?
On that matter, if the Prime Minister orders this Inquiry, he must have nothing to do with setting the guardrails of how the investigation can proceed, because of a possible conflict of interest. Namely, that the Prime Minister’s Office will likely be the focus of at least some part of the Inquiry.
This Prime Minister’s Office has a small arsenal of smoking guns from past indiscretions, so I don’t think anything that’s uncovered will actually shock us anymore. But, I think it’s long past time for Canadians to get the truth without the poorly crafted political spin.
